What Is Robotic Partial Nephrectomy?

Partial nephrectomy is a surgical procedure in which only the tumor-bearing portion of the kidney is removed while preserving the remaining healthy tissue. With robotic surgery, this procedure is performed with greater precision and safety.

How Is the Surgery Performed?

• Small incisions are made around the navel under general anesthesia.
• Robotic arms and a 3D camera are inserted, and renal vessels are secured.
• The tumor is precisely resected along the healthy tissue margins.
• The kidney tissue is repaired with sutures and hemostasis is achieved.
• The procedure takes approximately 2–3 hours. The patient is typically discharged within 2–3 days.

Who Is a Suitable Candidate?

Partial nephrectomy is the gold standard treatment for kidney tumors smaller than 4 cm (T1a stage). It can also be performed for tumors between 4–7 cm (T1b). It is strongly recommended for patients with a solitary kidney or bilateral tumors.
